    The Bolton and Leigh company obtained an Act of Parliament to build a railway line from the Manchester Bolton - Bury Canal at Bolton to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Leigh on 31 March 1825. the railway operated from bolton great moor street to leigh. in 1829, the 2.5 miles 4.0 km long kenyon and leigh junction railway k-lj was incorporated to link the bolton - leigh railway with the liverpool and manchester railway.

  • Canterbury and Whitstable Railway -
    The Canterbury and Whitstable Railway, sometimes referred to colloquially as the Crab and Winkle Line, was an early British railway that opened in 1830 between Canterbury and Whitstable in the county of Kent, England. The line was bedevilled by financial problems and was facing bankruptcy when the South Eastern Railway, which had received the Royal Assent in 1844, agreed to take it over, operating it in isolation from their own line.
